Oracle will Take Care of MySQL

Lot’s of comments about how Oracle’s purchase of Sun will be bad for the Open Source community, especially those dependant upon MySQL. I don’t agree. Oracle fully understands how it is positioned against MySQL and there is no direct threat. Sun was actually a detriment to MySQL by never embracing the goals for why they purchased it. I think Oracle will make sure that MySQL is strong enough to be a thorn in Microsoft’s SQL Server. A solid open source database option has always prevented SQL Server from generating greater revenue. I think Ellison will cherish this opportunity to give Microsoft some of their own medicine. Maybe do it just for an old friend Borland Software.
